This innovative postgraduate qualification is the first academic programme of its kind in the UK.
It is designed for health and social care practitioners from a range of service backgrounds to address the skills and knowledge required to meet the transformation agenda.
The programme equips professionals with the knowledge and skills to meet the needs of a rapidly changing health and social care landscape, improve the patient experience and influence service delivery.
The programme promotes the development of a competent, capable and flexible workforce where professionals work above and across traditional role boundaries towards common, client centred goals.
The programme is designed to underpin advanced competence, providing critical insight into the issues surrounding transdisciplinary working and the role of different ethical and political frameworks in shaping delivery and care provision. It also focuses on managing change and understanding the research behind the evidence base for change.
The programme is aimed at all registered health and social care practitioners who are currently working across traditional professional boundaries using transdisciplinary skills, competence and knowledge. Applicants may come from any professional background e.g. nurse, AHPs, social workers as long as they meet the entry requirements.
The programme was designed in association with the founders of the Calderdale Framework©. It is currently the only programme of this kind in the UK.
The University welcomes applications from all potential students; most important in the decision to offer a place is our assessment of a candidate’s potential to benefit from their studies and of their ability to succeed on this particular programme.
Consideration of applications will be based on a combination of formal academic qualifications and other relevant experience.
The standard entry requirements for the programme are as follows:
- A first degree in a relevant subject area or equivalent; or a relevant postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject area
- A registered qualification with a UK professional statutory regulatory body (PSRB) if the student is to practice in the UK. E.g. Registration with the HCPC or NMC or other PRSB
- Students for whom English is not a first language must have an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent
Students whose qualifications do not meet the entry requirements above but who have significant experience and other evidence of ability to study at this level and where an application can be made for Advance Standing through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in alignment with the University of Bradford Guide to the Recognition of Prior Learning.

Career support and prospects
The University is committed to helping students develop and enhance employability and this is an integral part of many programmes. Specialist support is available throughout the course from Career and Employability Services including help to find part-time work while studying, placements, vacation work and graduate vacancies. Students are encouraged to access this support at an early stage and to use the extensive resources on the Careers website.
Discussing options with specialist advisers helps to clarify plans through exploring options and refining skills of job-hunting. In most of our programmes there is direct input by Career Development Advisers into the curriculum or through specially arranged workshops.
Transdisciplinary Practice has evolved from multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary team approaches where different professions are working across what have sometimes be labelled as ‘blurred boundaries’.
The programme has been designed to meet the needs of the rapidly changing Health and Social Care landscape. It will promote the development of a competent, capable and flexible workforce where professionals are able to work above and across traditional role boundaries towards common person centred goals.
Fees, Finance and Scholarships
Tuition fees are subject to review for students starting their course in subsequent years. See our Fees and Financial Support website for more details.
Funding for eligible staff within the region will be reviewed by Health Education England (HEE) in the coming months for the 2017/18 academic year. We advise all applicants to apply as normal for 2017/18 courses and further information will be provided as soon as it is available.
