How does it work?

The University of Bradford has one of the most comprehensive exchange schemes in the United Kingdom. We offer our students opportunities ranging from 1 week to 12 months:

  • Erasmus + Programme: exchanges in Europe and some countries outside of Europe. You can take part in study and work placements during the term time and the summer break. This opportunity is open for research students and for recent graduates
  • International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP) and the Worldwide Exchanges: exchanges in almost any country in the world, covering study placements during the term time
  • Overseas Placements: covers work placements, internships, volunteering and electives outside of Europe during the term time and summer break. This opportunity is also available to recent graduates
  • Short International Programmes: covers short experiences abroad, e.g., summer schools, electives and field trips at any time of the year

During your degree with us, you can explore and combine a series of experiences abroad to strengthen your academic performance, boost your CV, develop skills to expand your career prospects, helping you to standout when applying for a job.

What are the benefits of studying abroad?

  • Standout: students who go abroad are viewed as independent, self-reliant, adaptable, open-minded, persistent and tolerant. An experience abroad will strengthen your leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills, all of which will make you standout for employers
  • Employability: the QS Global Employer Survey Report found that 6 out of 10 employers around the world give extra credit for a student with international experience, and more than 80% said they actively sought graduates who went abroad
  • Funding: various forms of financial assistance are available for different types of schemes, including tuition fee discounts, grants, scholarships and travel awards. Some of the programmes provide additional funding for students from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Broadening horizons: students return with a less biased perspective towards other cultures
  • Timing: this is a great time to experience living abroad, and if it appeals to you it can be something to pursue after graduating too
  • Academic recognition: approved study or work periods abroad will be reflected in student transcripts
  • Assistance: dedicated teams within the University will support and prepare you to make the most of your experience abroad

Zeeshan Javed

Zeeshan studies BSc Forensic and Medical Sciences and spent his third year studying at the University of Northern Colorado, USA through the International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP). This is what he had to say about his experience:

A shot of student Zeeshan Javed sat on a road in the middle of the mountains

“I have really got out of my comfort zone during the year I have spent abroad in the US and thus I have learnt a lot of things about a different culture through experiences that wouldn’t have been available to me in Bradford. My main tip for any prospective study abroad student is to sign up for as many things as possible.”
