Biography
Dr. Suresh Rohilla is a distinguished figure in the field of urban water management, with a focus on integrating water considerations into urban design and planning to foster climate-resilient, water-efficient, and sanitation-secure cities. His expertise is recognised internationally, and in 2024, he brought his extensive experience to academia. His professional journey includes significant roles with international organisations such as the International Water Association and the World Wide Fund for Nature, influential think tanks like the Centre for Science and Environment, and collaborations with government agencies including the National Capital Region Planning Board in India.Prior to his academic tenure, he led the Inclusive Urban Sanitation initiative at the International Water Association. His tenure at the Centre for Science and Environment was marked by his foundational leadership as the Academic Director of the School of Water and Waste and as the Head of the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Water Management Area, under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. He was instrumental in developing and delivering over 200 tailored executive education programmes, which played a pivotal role in aiding urban local bodies to implement sustainable urban water management practices across India and other cities in the global south.Suresh's academic accolades include prestigious fellowships such as the Fulbright Visiting Fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley, the NUFFIC Fellowship at Wageningen University, and the Chevening Fellowship at the Bradford Centre for International Development. He also contributes his knowledge as a Visiting Faculty member at the School of Natural and Built Environment, Queen's University Belfast.His research endeavours are geared towards fostering interdisciplinary partnerships that drive innovative policy and practice, with the goal of catalysing progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Suresh's geographical research spans across India, South Asia (including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal), Africa (with focus on Tanzania, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda), and Brazil, reflecting his commitment to addressing water and sanitation challenges on a global scale. His work exemplifies the synergy between research, practice, and policy, driving transformative change for sustainable urban environments worldwide.
