Helping the economy
Prof Sankar Sivarajah, from the University’s multi-award winning School of Management, said: “This is our School’s commitment to provide businesses with the knowledge and skills to help them drive their growth. One of key outcomes will be having an action plan that sets out how they will take their businesses forward.
“The small and medium business sector contributes massively to the local and national economy. If we can enable those businesses to be 10 or 20 per cent more effective, the impact on the economy will be significant.”
The 12-week programme is 90% subsidised by the government as part of its Plan for Jobs to help businesses to drive growth and protect jobs, and is aimed at senior leaders of small and medium businesses.
SMEs are vital
Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof Zahir Irani, said: “It's vital we do all we can to help SMEs recover from the pandemic and explore areas of new opportunity. This new 12-week course will not only put them in touch with our own experts, it will help them create a network with other business leaders, ultimately so they can grow.”
Help to Grow: Management is a 12 week programme delivered by leading business schools across the UK. The programme combines a practical curriculum, with 1:1 support from a business mentor, peer-learning sessions and access to an alumni network.
Designed to be manageable alongside full-time work, modules cover financial management, strategies for growth and innovation, leading a high performance workplace and digital adoption. By the end of the programme, business leaders will develop a tailored business growth plan to help their business achieve its next stage of success.
Seize opportunity
Small Business Minister Paul Scully said: “Seizing opportunity is what being a business leader is all about, and our Help to Grow Management Scheme gives entrepreneurs the chance to access the very best advice on how to innovate, reach new customers and boost profits.
“The practical training scheme is 90% funded by the government and designed around busy business owners’ schedules, so I would encourage entrepreneurs across the UK to get involved and maximise the potential of their business.”
