US Ambassador to the UK visits the University of Bradford

The University of Bradford was honoured to welcome Matthew W. Barzun, Ambassador of the United States of America to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland today as part of a visit to the city of Bradford.

While on campus, Ambassador Barzun delivered a presentation to the University of Bradford staff, students and executive members. He also met students from the renowned Peace Studies department, currently celebrating its 40th anniversary. Headed by Professor David Francis, the department offers degrees in International Relations, Security Studies, Politics, Development and Conflict Resolution.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford Professor Brian Cantor said: “I am delighted and privileged to have had the opportunity to highlight the hard work and dedication made by staff and students from the University of Bradford to somebody as influential as the US Ambassador, Mathew Barzun.

“With almost 50 years of academic excellence behind us as a University, Bradford continues to expand our international reputation and course provision.

“The University of Bradford is an outstanding and world class University, the Technology University of the North, and the key to our success is our strong links to international business diplomacy and some of the world’s biggest brands. Working with world-class industry helps us shape our degree courses so that our graduates have a global perspective and are highly employable.”

Matthew W. Barzun, Ambassador of the United States of America to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland said: “I’m really honoured to visit the University of Bradford to create new links with the US.

“International relations between our two great countries is important and we must not forget there are some incredible research universities such as Bradford who contribute towards creating tomorrow's decision makers.

“I hope that my visit today is the first step in what we hope to be a longstanding relationship between the University and the US Embassy.

As part of his visit to the University, the Ambassador enjoyed a tour of the University campus and met with students and staff from across the University to find out more about their participation in international relations, as well as how they are applying what they learn in their studies.
