Engineers attend prestigious conference at the University of Bradford.

The University of Bradford is hosting this year's Association of University Engineers (AUE) conference.

The theme for this year’s conference, which is being held at the University 3-5 September, is Building a Self-Sustaining Future: Making a Difference Together.

The conference will welcome over 230 representatives from organisations and companies from across the country. It will include sessions looking at how to build a self-sustaining future, from geothermal engineering to behaviour change, and everything in between.

The conference also includes excursions to National Coal Mining Museum, Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, Bradford Industrial Museum, National Media Museum, and a Campus Biodiversity and Bright/re:centre Building Tour.

Russell Smith, University of Bradford Estate Manager, said: "The AUE membership is UK-wide, spans over 100 institutions, includes over 400 individual members and and describes itself as a 'union of like-minded people'.

“Having the opportunity to welcome fellow AUE members, industry experts and leading companies to the University of Bradford is a huge privilege and is testament to our status as a leading technology university. This will be a great opportunity to share experiences and solutions, to get ideas from suppliers and to take part in practical workshops that will help engineers successfully deliver their role across the country.”

This year's conference host is Kate Bellingham. Kate's engineering background, along with a degree in physics from Oxford University and experience as a computer programmer, came in useful during her four years as a presenter on the BBC's flagship science and technology programme "Tomorrow's World". Kate then went on to present her own weekly programme on Radio 5 Live, "The Big Bang", on Children's ITV and various other programmes for the Open University, BBC Schools and Channel 5.

The conference also has BBC 3's Real Hustle expert Alexis Conran booked as an after dinner speaker at the gala dinner.
