Language Centre

There are lots of resources available to help with your English language skills, as well as supporting you to develop the academic language skills to support your studies.

The Language Centre offers a range of free classes, workshops, one-to-one tutorials and online support to help you get the most from your studies at the University of Bradford, Dubai Hub or if you are following a distance learning course.

We do everything we can to support courses to be accessible and inclusive for all students.  Here at the Language Centre we aim to offer study materials in a variety of formats (audio, video and print) so please let us know how we can help support you.  The University’s Disability Service can give you access to wider support  fromacross the University so please contact them for an informal discussion or guidance.

The Language Centre's independent study materials stored on our Virtual Learning Environment, Canvas, cover a range of topics related to your academic study. You can work through them at your own pace from anywhere with internet access. To access these materials, you will need to register with the Language Centre’s Canvas in the first instance. You can book a one-to-one or small group tutorial by emailing the Language Centre, who will do their utmost to accommodate global time differences.

Disability Service

The Disability Service team is here to support perspective and current students whether studying on the Bradford City Campus, Dubai Hub or are a distance learning student.

In the first instance, if you are a disabled student and need the University to make some adjustments or provide you with support, please get in touch with us.  We will make an appointment for you to speak with a Disability Adviser to discuss your needs. This appointment can be in person, via skype, email or telephone to accommodate our students who are not studying on the Bradford City Campus.  We will also take into consideration global time difference so, wherever possible, our meeting is a time that suits you.

The types of service we can provide include screening for specific learning difficulties, recommendations of reasonable adjustments, advice on eligibility to disability funding, advice on accessing study skills and mentoring support and referral to other University services e.g. Library and Language Centre that supplement the services provided by the Disability Service.  In addition, the Service will assess any examination requirements or adjustments.

As a University of Bradford Dubai student you are eligible to access the same service as any distance learning student.

The Library is open 24/7 giving full access to the digital resources of e-books, journals, and databases, recorded workshops and tutorials and supplementary learning materials. 

Each subject area has a dedicated librarian. You can make an appointment for a one-to-one meeting to discuss and address your individual needs. Our dedicated librarians will arrange meetings times that suit you and they can be held over Microsoft Teams,  telephone or email.

The library team provide workshops and tutorials not just on how to use the library but also on areas that students have found essential in developing their academic skills. These sessions include referencing, plagiarism, copyright and endnote. Our experienced team can also support you during the research stages of your studies and information regarding this can be accessed via the Library website or by contacting your subject librarian.

For those students not studying on the Bradford City Campus, you can join workshops remotely using Teams. Just let the organiser know that this is your attendance preference when you book to enable them to make sure that the session is set up to accommodate all student requirements.

If you have a learning difference, then we suggest you make an appointment with your dedicated subject librarian who will be able to advise what assistance they can provide. Assistance could range from large print chapters of books to converting diagrams/drawings to text diagrams.

Students' Union

There is more to the university experience than studying so why not take a look at the University of Bradford’s Union of Students? Take a look at what events and activities are available to both Bradford City Campus and Dubai students, plus our distance learning students.

You can get involved in local and national campaigns, sign up to be an ambassador, find out about volunteering opportunities or join one of the many clubs and societies. The SU are always looking to establish clubs and societies over the miles so maybe you have an idea or interest that the Union can support developing and launching across its student network.

Your MBA programme will give you specialist knowledge, strategic insights and a range of management skills; but it takes more than the qualification to be able to achieve your career goals. You may also need preparation, resilience and a career plan that could include developing a range of professional and personal career management skills. Whatever stage you are at in your career, our Career and Employability Services team will be delighted to support you with your career planning and decision-making.

Our dedicated MBA career consultants offer one-to-one career coaching, providing advice and guidance on any careers questions you may have. These are delivered remotely via video, phone and email, at a time to suit your schedule. You can book an appointment online.

We also run monthly MBA career development webinars on a range of topics, from job-seeking skills to specific career insights, and offer a successful career mentoring programme that links MBA students with professionals for careers advice and insights.

As an MBA student you can access our specialist MBA job search websites with job postings and development programmes, our online careers centre - Build my Career, which includes self-assessment activities and an interview simulator, plus specialist international careers resources from our triple-crown accreditation partnerships.

You can also access our free careers services for up to five years after graduation.

Academic Skills Advice service

Developing your academic skills is part of your student journey. In addition to the opportunities embedded in your course, the Academic Skills Advice service is available to support you.

There are a range of areas in which we offer advice and guidance, including mathematics and statistics, study skills for higher education, critical thinking and essay planning. Our goal is to help you develop your skills with the aim of increasing your confidence and ultimately, your grades.

We offer online study skills resources including self-guided learning materials. We also offer advice via email, as well as appointments which are bookable online. There are also workshops, webinars and clinics which run as part of the University's Student Workshop Programme. Once enrolled, you will have full access to our service.
