We work with Phlebotomy Training Services to deliver our phlebotomy training course.

Course outline and dates
Our Level 3 Phlebotomy Training 2-day Induction Course provides a comprehensive understanding of essential skills and techniques required in the field. It's taught by experienced professionals and ensures you are well-equipped to excel in phlebotomy practices. It is delivered by Phlebotomy Training Services: the first company in the UK to hold an accredited certificate. No previous experience is required for this course.
This level 3 induction course certified by NOCN combines two areas: Caring for Patients During the Phlebotomy Procedure; and Understanding Phlebotomy Skills and Techniques. The combined course will help you effectively communicate with the patient and support with patient preparation, pain relief and post-procedural care. It will give you knowledge on key terminology, procedural steps, patient consent, and health and safety regulations.
You will receive:
- Hands-on training with dummy arms for practical skill development
- In-depth coverage of health and safety regulations and infection control
- Emphasis on effective communication and patient care during procedures
- Recognition and response to complications, ensuring confident and capable phlebotomists
Phlebotomy Training Services use safety equipment in all of their training in accordance with the requirements of the Health & Safety (Sharp Instruments in Healthcare Regulations) 2013. Once you have completed this training you will have all of the skills and knowledge necessary to be able to work as a phlebotomist.
There will be no more than 10 participants per session on the course. Please note that this course runs 08:45-17:30 over two days.

Course details
The course is run in DHEZ and uses simulation equipment to provide safe phlebotomy training skills. The two-day course includes:
Caring for Patients During the Phlebotomy Procedure. Level 3, 4 credits, 28 hours of guided learning
- Understand how effective communication can facilitate the phlebotomy procedure
- Know the essential information required from a patient prior to the phlebotomy procedure
- Understand patient preparation prior to a phlebotomy procedure
- Understand when and how to apply pain relief whilst obtaining blood
- Understand current safe practice, infection control and health and safety
- Understand post procedural best practice
- Know how to care for vulnerable patients
Understanding Phlebotomy Skills and Techniques. Level 3, 3 credits, 26 hours guided learning
- Understand key terminology associated with phlebotomy
- Understand the principles of informed patient consent, including paediatric consent
- Know current health and safety legislation and regulations as relevant to phlebotomy
- Understand an organisation’s application of phlebotomy policies and procedures
- Understand the principles of infection control during venepuncture.
- Know how to recognise and respond to complications which could occur during venepuncture.
- Know about different types of tourniquet
- Be able to demonstrate application and release of a tourniquet
- Be able to demonstrate taking blood from a dummy arm
- Know what action to take if bloods cannot be taken
- Know how to provide patient aftercare
- Know how to prepare and pack samples for transportation
