What is an alternative offer?
Here at Bradford, we want to help you succeed and realise your potential.
If you applied for an undergraduate degree before 30 June 2024, are holding a conditional offer and don't get the grades you need, we may offer you a place on an alternative course. If you receive an alternative offer, you will see the offer in your UCAS Hub.
Depending on your results, we may look at the subjects you have studied and the grades you have achieved. We may then suggest a course that we think will give you the best possible start to your journey.
This could be a foundation year course, which leads to a degree programme, or another degree programme in a similar subject area.

How can an alternative offer help you?
Our alternative offers allow you to explore similar career options and you’ll learn many of the same skills.
You’ll receive an email that explains more about the course you’ve been offered.
There’s no obligation to accept this alternative course offer. However, if you choose to decline the offer, you will either be released to your insurance choice or into Clearing.
What might my alternative offer be?
Many alternative offers will invite you to study a foundation year.
A foundation year gives you an additional year of study. It provides you with a solid base of knowledge to allow you to confidently progress onto your original or a similar course choice.
We also offer degree programmes, in Engineering, Computing, and Clinical Sciences, that include an integrated foundation year.
These programmes are great if you don't quite meet the entry requirements of the degree course. If you successfully complete your foundation year, you'll continue directly onto year one of your undergraduate degree course.
For certain courses, you may be offered the opportunity to go straight into an alternative Bachelor's degree related to your original choice.
For example, if you did not quite get the grades for:
- Nursing (Mental Health), you may be given an alternative offer of Psychology
- Diagnostic Radiography, you may be given an alternative offer of Clinical Technology
- Midwifery, you may be given an alternative offer of Public Health and Community Wellbeing
- Optometry or Pharmacy, you may be given an alternative offer of Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science, Biomedical Science, or Chemistry, depending on your results.

Abdalrahman's story
Abdalrahman didn't receive the grades he expected on Results Day for Chemical Engineering and was offered an alternative course.
He received a phonecall during Clearing to discuss the options available to him and also to invite him to a Clearing Open Day.
He attended the Open Day and, after meeting the professors and touring the labs, decided to accept the alternative offer of a place on the Engineering Foundation Year.
He has since gone on to study MEng (Hons) Chemical Engineering here at Bradford.
The Engineering Foundation Year set me up for the next step. It was engineering specific, so we covered physics, maths, materials, and mechanics, and we got to do a lot of practical work, including physics experiments in the labs for two hours every week. It really does make you university ready.

What happens after I receive my offer?
If you receive your results on 15 August 2024, we will be in touch with you by phone to discuss your alternative offer.
During this phone call we can answer any questions you may have and you’ll have the opportunity to speak to an academic.
If you have your results before 15 August 2024, you can email our Admissions Team to discuss your alternative offer.
Please note that you will need to either accept or reject this offer via the UCAS Hub within five days. If you accept this offer, you have 14 days to change your mind after accepting it. Please contact us during this time if you wish to be released into Clearing or withdraw.
If you've been made an alternative offer you can accept it through your UCAS Hub, or if you want more information before making a decision, you can call our Clearing helpline.

Student finance and accommodation
If your course has changed, and you have already applied for student finance funding, you will need to update your online funding application as soon as possible with the new course information.
You can do this by logging into your online application at Student Finance England and completing a 'Change of Circumstances' process with the new course information.
You will need your Customer Reference Number (CRN) and password in order to log in.
If you have received and accepted a changed course offer and have already applied for student accommodation, your application will remain unaffected.
