Printing, Scanning and Photocopying

Printers. Before you begin, check your account balance on a cluster PC by clicking on Start - Check Printing Credits.

If you need to, credit your account online, via the 'About UoB' app or via the pay station in the library. A change machine is available. Ensure you have your student or staff card and PIN.

Note: Remember to abide by copyright law. Serious penalties apply for infringement.

Cost

Price per side:

A4

  • black and white, single sided: 5p.
  • black and white, double sided: 4p.
  • colour, single sided: 10p.
  • colour, double sided: 8p.

A3

  • black and white, single sided: 10p.
  • black and white, double sided: 8p.
  • colour, single sided: 20p.
  • colour, double sided: 16p.

Print from a cluster PC

Sending a document to print

Printing defaults to black and white, and double sided.

Note: after 24 hours, any document sent to print, but not released, will be automatically deleted. Charges only apply when the document is printed.

  1. In most applications, choose File - Print.
  2. Select a printer: either Library MFD (for colour, black and white, A4 and A3) or Self Service (for A4 only).
  3. If required, select the number of copies, a specific page or a page range.
    - For colour: click on Printer Properties - Color tab. Select HP EasyColor and uncheck Print to Greyscale.
    - For single sided: click on Printer Properties - Printing Shortcut tab. Select No from the Print on both sides drop down list.
    - For multiple pages per sheet: in the Settings section, make a selection from the 1 page per sheet drop down list.
    - For multiple pages per sheet from a PDF file: in the Page Handling section, select Multiple pages per sheet from the Page Scaling drop down list. Then select the number of pages from the Pages per Sheet drop down list.
  4. Click on Print.
  5. Enter your 8 digit UB number in the Print Job Details window and click on Print.

Note: these settings will persist for subsequent jobs until you manually change them.

Releasing a document from the printer 

  1. Press Print Release on screen.
  2. Hold your card against the black box on the machine.
  3. Enter your Library PIN and press OK.
  4. Select the job you want to print from the list available by pressing on the box next to the job and then Print or Print All.
  5. Log out by pressing the Home icon at the top left of the screen and then Sign Out at the bottom of the screen.

 

Print wirelessly

You can enable wireless printing on a computer connected to eduroam or RoamNet, by installing the drivers below.

Microsoft Windows

  1. Save the appropriate file below to your computer (you will need your University username and password):
    J. B. Priestley Library, Careers, F42, SC0.38, L24, and J31.
    Faculty of Management and Law Library.
    Faculty of Health Studies and Sustainability Enterprise Centre.
    - Postgraduate Lounge.
  2. Right click on the saved file and select Run as Administrator.
  3. Click on Install to begin. The installation will take several minutes to complete.
  4. On completion, click on Finish.

Your laptop can now be used to send print jobs. Print wirelessly from your laptop the same way as you print from a cluster PC.

Mac

  1. Download the appropriate print driver:
    LSS printers (for Library and cluster printers) (.dmg file).
    re:centre printers (for Sustainable Enterprise Centre building) (.dmg file).
    Faculty of Health Studies printers (.dmg file).
    Faculty of Management and Law Library (.dmg file).
  2. Using Finder, browse to the Downloads folder.
  3. Double click on the downloaded .dmg file.
  4. Double click on Popup.pkg.
  5. On the Welcome to Popup Installer screen, click on Continue.
  6. On the Important Information screen, click on Continue.
  7. Accept the installation location and click on Install.
  8. Type in your password if prompted. On the Installation was successful screen, click on Close.
  9. Close the Popup 8.1 window and close Finder.

Your Mac can now be used to send print jobs.

Print on your own paper

Printing defaults to black and white, and double sided.

Note: after 24 hours, any document sent to print, but not released, will be automatically deleted. Charges only apply when the document is printed.

Sending the document to print

  1. In most applications, choose File - Print.
  2. Select Library MFD as the printer.
  3. Click on Properties and select the Printing Shortcuts tab.
  4. From the Paper source drop down list select Tray 1.
  5. Click on Print.
  6. Enter your 8 digit UB number in the Print Job Details window and click on Print.

Printing the document 

  1. Go to a library MFD.
  2. Press Print Release on screen.
  3. Hold your card against the black box on the machine.
  4. Enter your Library PIN and press OK.
  5. Open Tray 1 on the right hand side of the MFD.
  6. Place your paper on the tray.
  7. Select the job you want to print from the list available by pressing on the box next to the job and then Print or Print All.
  8. Remove any unused paper and close Tray 1.
  9. Log out by pressing the Home icon at the top left of the screen and then Sign Out at the bottom of the screen. 

Scan to email

  1. Press E-mail on screen.
  2. Hold your card against the black box on the machine.
  3. Enter your Library PIN and press OK.
  4. Place the original on the glass plate and close the lid (multiple loose sheets can be placed face up on the document feeder).
  5. The email will be sent to your University of Bradford email account. You can change the email Subject and document filename, which default to Scanned document. You can also choose to send a copy to another email address, by adding it in the cc or bcc fields.
  6. The default setting for the document will be single sided, pdf, with a Medium file size and 150 resolution. To change the defaults press more options.
    Note: if you are scanning to PDF you can encrypt it with a password by pressing File options.
  7. Press the green Start button to begin scanning.
  8. Log out by pressing the Home icon at the top left of the screen and then Sign Out at the bottom of the screen.

Photocopy

To photocopy:

  1. Press Copy on the screen.
  2. Hold your card against the black box on the machine.
  3. Enter your Library PIN and press OK.
  4. Place the original on the glass plate and close the lid (multiple loose sheets can be placed face up on the document feeder).
  5. If required, select from the options on the screen to make changes to the copy produced e.g. colour, double sided or alter the size.
    Note: photocopying defaults to black and white. For colour, press the Color / Black option, select Color and press OK.
  6. Select the number of copies required using the numbered keypad.
  7. Press the green Start button to begin copying.
  8. Log out by pressing the Home icon at the top left of the screen. Then press Sign Out at the bottom of the screen.

Refund policy

Credit may only be refunded where there has been a fault with the printer / copier, eg toner or ink cartridge runs out. Refunds will not be given for any other reason, including:

  • choosing the wrong printer driver;
  • printing a file accidentally or to the wrong printer;
  • printing a file that contains blank pages;
  • printing a file that contains more pages than you expected;
  • printing a file that is formatted for a non–standard page size which causes the output to be clipped.

Requests for refunds should be made to the J. B. Priestley Library Welcome Desk or the Faculty of Management and Law Library Enquiry Desk. The printing / copying claimed to be faulty must be submitted with a brief description of what is wrong, signed and dated. Faulty printing / copying for which refunds are successful will be retained.

Students who are near to completing their course are advised not to add more money onto their account than they expect to use. Remaining credit may be paid towards outstanding Library fines where they exist.
